Nick has changed so much in 3 years. He was about 37 inches when we brought him home and now he is 46 and 1/2 inches (9 1/2 inches he has grown!!). His weight dropped after we got him to 28 pounds and now he is 48 pounds! Crazy, I know! He has gone from never talking only grunting to big words, like "extraordinary, awesome, buenos dias, banyo, stupendous!" He has in 6 months gone from barely being able to write his name to bubble letters.....see below!

He has gone from 3 stick figures to star wars scenes and very detailed drawings of his amazing imagination. The first pic is of an X wing fighter....

This one is of jedi fighters with light sabers and maybe guys with guns? that look like axes? :) I have definitely seen more advanced pics from his friends but I love that he gives his faces emotion with the eyebrows and sends bullets from his swords and guns (sound waves, tears, and radiating light in other pics).

He has most recently taken a liking to Pie (key lime, pumpkin, whatever) which is fun since we like pies too. Now, I need to get him to try fruit pie so we can expand our fruit likes past apples and bananas. I hope his 6th year brings him more veggie varieties too. He will eat what you give him but he hasn't found one yet that he just likes to eat. Just like his name sake Grandpa Carmon, the boy can put away the ice cream. He now has tried chocolate and prefers that when given a choice but loves vanilla too.

This year for his birthday, we had plans for an afternoon playdate at Chuck E Cheese (no crowd) and a small celebration. Instead, Nick got strep throat and had to be at home so I stole an idea from a friend in St Louis who does scavenger hunts for Christmas presents and we made one up for Nick to find his presents from mom and dad. We had 6 small ones, so I wrapped them up, did clues, and wrote out our message to him on each bag so he would have to put them in order at the end to get his message. We took pictures of all the stages so enjoy.....

Yes, he does actually act this peppy and happy with Strep.....the fever only slowed him down slightly.......but, we will take whatever we can get! ;)
We grabbed some cupcakes from my fav bakery and he was plenty happy to eat the icing! Hopefully, I will get to make him some more for a belated celebration in the coming weeks.
It was a good day all in all even with the Strep. He had to stay home one more day to get a full dose of antibiotics in and then he went back to school only to be home again on Thurs with a snow day. We have had 7 snow days this year which is very rare but the one this week was totally lame. I am so ready for spring and outside play.....he just needs his outdoor activity and large muscle activity to keep us all sane! :)
We had one extremely bright spot on our snow day and that was a trip to the airport to welcome home Benjamin (Benny) McIntyre from Korea! My sweet friend Kim and her hubs have been waiting for a long time for their daughter from China (they started before we left for Kaz) and were able to finally do a concurrent adoption with Korea for their new son. He is a pumpkin and a half. We are so overjoyed for them. They will be awesome parents and I just love to see more babies get their forever home! Woo Hoo!
Nick was acting all "shy" and silly but oooo, can't you just squeeze that sweet little Benny to pieces! So excited for them to grow up together.
------------------------------------------------------------
Hopefully, next week will be a full school week with no sickness and no snow. I'm really praying hard! :) I can't believe it is March already! Seriously, time is flying! We have Gotcha day festivities and Pat's folks coming to town along with a "just Girls" trip to a "Drive in, diners and Dives" eatery here in Kentucky.....I think it is our only one so far, at least the only one the food network has been too......so excited to go! Love that show! Happy March everyone!

Happy Birthday Nick! I love your then & now photos ;) I love the photo of Nick & Pat looking out the window - we have a similar one. Your scavenger hunt sounds like it was a hit (bummer Nick is sick!). Praying for a healthy week next week with no snow days!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!! He sure has changed!!!!
Happy Birthday sweet Nick!!! I can't believe he is 6 years old already...such a big boy. Sorry he was sick on his birthday, but sounds like the scavenger hunt was a great idea. Nick is sooooo lucky to have such great parents.
I love, love, love the scavenger hunt idea for birthday pressies! I am going to file that away for Hannah's and Nathan's upcoming birthdays. Shhhh...don't tell :)
Happy Birthday Nick!!! So sorry I didn't check in until now. I hope Nick has recovered by now, and that life is back to normal with school.
Love,
Carol
Just one big happy sigh ..... what an amazing 3 years it has been!!!
I'll be copying the scavenger hunt idea, of course. Oh how I wish you lived right next door. I need your amazing motherness to rub off on me every chance I can get!
Hope to see you in about two weeks or so. Miss you guys!
